Additional information about 2151...
<< Version: 1.5, 8/15/92 >>
2151 is now multi-node compatible. Version 1.5 will run on any number
of nodes under Desk View, Novell, Lantastic, etc. at the same time.
ATTENTION:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* If your upgrading from version 1.3 or 1.4 please take note:
Please delete your PASTPRES.DAT file. This file now has a new format.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
_
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
* If your upgrading from version 1.1, 1.2 please take note:
Version 1.3 and higher contains a change to your config file! You
MUST run install and place your FULL name in line 2; SYSOPS NAME; and
enter the drive and path to the program files in line 3. Also delete
your PASTPRES.DAT file. This file now has a new format.
eg: C:\BBS\DOORS\DOOR30\
* DO NOT include any file names, just the drive and path, thats all. *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
This "DOOR" uses an installation program named 2151INST.EXE. Please run
this program to install the game after creating the games directory and
un-archiving the files to that directory. Please do not attempt to use
text editors etc. to create the config file(s). Once the config file(s)
are created by 2151INST.EXE you may make changes with other editors if
you must, but why not just run the install program? After installation
please check the config file for errors. Almost <ALL> bugs reported are
actually errors in the config file(s) or door batch file(s). Thanks...
If your BBS software uses the DOOR.SYS drop file format and you wish to
access this file, set your BBS TYPE in the config to WC3 regardless
of the type of software you are actually running. For example, if using
PCboard v14.5+ you can elect to create a DOOR.SYS file. If you set your
BBSTYPE to WC3 and tell 2151 the path and name of the door info file is
C:\PCB\NODE1\DOOR.SYS then the program will look for DOOR.SYS in this
directory instead of PCBOARD.SYS. The DOOR.SYS format is fast becoming
an industry standard. If your BBS software does not support it now, the
chances are it will in the future.
The preceeding path is an example! Enter YOUR correct path in config.

FREE DOOR! (see note ** below)
SYSOP's who register 2151 will, in addition to the editor and unlocked
features, receive the companion door; " 2151 Question Bank" that will
allow callers to enter questions for the categories you select as well
as giving them 1 additional play at the game for each question entered
up to 7 per week. This feature will allow your databases to grow even
though you may not have time to enter questions yourself. This door is
FREE with registration of 2151. (See ** below for availability)
2151 HISTORY
------------
11/01/91 Began coding the game, what a mistake...
02/15/92 First working copy running locally but not on the BBS...
05/10/92 Dumped ALL COMM routines and started over with new library...
05/20/92 First copy on BBS, problem with flow control, oh well...
06/01/92 Added QBserial MS C COMM routines, what a difference...
07/01/92 First working copy sent to beta test sites for evaluation...
07/02/92 First bug reports received from beta sites, oh well...
07/04/92 Bug fixes:
* Corrected problem with no color sent to caller if local
monitor was monochrome
* Corrected PCboard data file translation error that would
cause the program to crash if PCB sysop on locally
* Improved random number seeding and question generation
* Slowed "Time remaining = " prompt sent to caller, to fast,
missing input from caller
* Streamlined reading and translation of BBS data file(s)
07/06/92
* Program not always accessing the home directory when
running in multi-node enviroment.
* Changed config file to include path spec for program
files, more reliable operation in multi mode enviroments.
Modified install program for same.
07/07/92
* Out of beta, first standard release, version 1.3...
07/12/92
* Corrected several minor bugs in bbs info file conversion
routines
07/16/92
* Re-coded the time keeping functions and input routines
08/01/92
* Enhanced colors in the score bulletin
(Thanks to Dave Schubert, CASINO BBS)
* Changed the "Hall of Fame" to include scores
* Corrected some spelling bugs (OOPS!)
* Seperated SYSOP.TXT and REGISTER.FRM
(Thanks to: Harold Hayes, OUTSKIRTS BBS)
08/15/92
* Released version 1.5 After reviewing comments from
registered users, it was decided to change the method
of question selection from random to sequencial. The
user data files were re-sized to accept data from the
"Question Bank" door and hold pointers for the last
question answered in the five categories. RESIZE.EXE
was included in the package to handle user databases
automatically. Questions will now wrap around when the
caller has answered all questions in the database.
(Special thanks to Marcy Crossman, IBMWORLD BBS)
* Completed true multi-node compatibility. Door will
now run on more than one node at the same time, sharing
databases, etc with all nodes.
08/18/92
* Re wrote the "Hall of Fame" (Past Presidents) function.
Player names will now be added to this file and bulletin
when they achieve top score. A player name may show up
in this file more than once or, any time their score tops
the current point leader. (President) This was done after
reviewing registered user requests.
* Moved all question handling routines from temporary files
into memory. Significant speed increase gained.
* Local play will now use "_L" in the name of error files,
and temporary player data files instead of a node number
to indicate game was in a local mode at the time.
Many thanks go out to our beta test sites. Without them, this door would
still be "vaporware":
